Cypriots to commemorate tragic events of 1974
The Justice for Cyprus Coordination Committee SA (SEKA), in association with the Cyprus Community of SA Inc, once again have organised a series of events on SUNDAY 16th of July and Wed-nesday 19th of July 2017, to mark the 43rd Anniversary of the Turk-ish Invasion of Cyprus.
In an announcement sent to the Greek Tribune, SEKA says "the events are an expression of our solidarity and support to the people of Cyprus wherever they may be and a mark of respect to those who lost their lives for liberty".
SEKA and the Cyprus Community are inviting the public to attend the activities they are organising, which include a memorial service at the Saint George Community Parish Church, 23 Rose Terrace Thebarton, on Sunday 16 July at 10am.
On the same day, there will be a wreath laying ceremony at 12.15pm at the memorial within the premises of the Cyprus Community of SA, 6-8 Barrpowell Street, Welland, 5007.
On Wednesday 19th of July at 7.00pm the public is invited to the Cyprus Community of SA club rooms, 6 – 8 Barrpowell Street, Welland, for a present-ation on current develop-ments on the Cyprus issue. Official speaker at the event will be Mr Michael Sofokleous Director of the Presi-dent's Office, rep-resenting the republic of Cyprus.
Mr Sofokleous will be accompanied by the new High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus in Canberra, Ms Martha Mavrommatis and Mr Vakis Zissimos, Deputy Head of Mission/Consul General of the republic of Cyprus in Canberra.
Refreshments and canapés will be provided.
GOCSA memorial for coup and invasion
On 16 July, 10.30am the Greek Orthodox Community of SA will hold a memorial service at the Cathedral of Archangels Michael and Gabriel, Franklin Street, City, for those who died defending democracy in Cyprus on 15 July against the military coup of the Greek junta as well as those who fell during the Turkish invasion.
