Culture in Ageing workshop
October 2018 More than 30 aged care workers and coordinators were immersed in a special day of discovery, learning, cultural experiences and hands on activities during the Culture in Ageing workshop "A Day in Greek Culture: OPA!" organised by Ms Vicki Kanakaris, Multicultural Learning and Development Coordinator at Multicultural Aged Care (MAC) on Tuesday 18th September 2018. The workshop was designed to equip Lifestyle and Respite Coordinators, Community Care Workers and Activities Organisers in Residential Aged Care Facilities with practical knowledge, skills and ideas to meet the linguistic needs or older people of Greek background by providing culturally inclusive strategies through a combination of presentations and activities. Representatives from 15 different aged care organisations (such as St Raphael’s Home for the Aged, Helping Hand Ingle Farm, Wesley House Uniting SA, Ridleyton Greek Home for the Aged, St Basil’s Home for the Aged, the Salvation Army Linsell Lodge and others) attended this interesting and vivid workshop at MAC premises on the 18th of September. During the workshop, Ms Marianthi Kosmarikou had the opportunity to demonstrate an innovative app for iPhones and iPads, developed by the Greek Orthodox Community of South Australia. The app, which is called "Let’s Go Greek", is a useful language tool for workers and professionals in the aged care and health industries who work with older Greek clients.
