Greek scientist develops advanced cancer test
February 2018 American researchers, led by Greek scientist Prof. Nickolas Papadopoulos, have developed a single blood test which screens for eight common cancer types and helps identify the location of the disease. Five of the cancers, including ovarian, liver, stomach, pancreatic and esophageal currently have no screening tests The test, called CancerSEEK, simultaneously evaluates levels of eight cancer proteins and the presence of cancer gene mutations from circulating DNA in the blood. Papadopoulos, a graduate of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holder of a Ph.D from the University of Texas Medical School is based at John Hopkins’ Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center.
