The Riverland
Multicultural Forum Inc in partnership with Riverland
Youth Theatre, Riverland Singh Society and local
community groups of the Riverland region are celebrating
diversity for Harmony Day 2018 on Saturday March 24,
from 2pm to 7.00pm with a free event to be held on the
picturesque lakefront in Barmera.
Riverland residents are
invited to come along and celebrate the Riverland’s
cultural diversity by joining in the fun in the
afternoon.
Celebrating this year’s
Harmony Day which is celebrated nationally on March 21,
this year’s event will be held Saturday afternoon March
24, with an event that showcases the Riverland’s strong
spirit of inclusiveness.
"We want to celebrate
Harmony Day and show a sense of belonging for everyone.
Our event reminds the community why our cultural
diversity is one of our regions greatest assets and we
are stronger because of it", said Peter Ppiros,
Chairperson, Riverland Multicultural Forum Inc.
Peter also encouraged
people to share their Harmony Day celebrations and
pictures on social media using #harmonyday.
Harmony Day coincides with
the United Nations Inter-national Day for the
Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
This free event which
includes cultural performances from local and visiting
per-formers; food; children’s activities including
circus workshops by Cirkidz in partnership with RYT,
Head-space activities, stalls and the amazing Barmera
CFS will be on site with some exciting activities and
opportunities.
The ever popular Turbans
and Trust will be on site once again. Come and meet the
team from Turbans and Trust and get to wear a turban for
the afternoon. Participate in discussion structured
around the sacred sense turbans have for Sikh’s and the
history of the turban in Australia. An opportunity not
to be missed!
What a perfect way to
spend a Saturday afternoon in the Riverland. Enjoy all
that’s on offer including the free delicious food
provided by the Riverland Singh Society. We invite
everyone, no matter who they are or where they’re from,
to come along and have fun and appreciate that our
differences make our community a great place to live.
Performances for this year
also include the AfroOz who delighted the audience last
year with their exciting fusion of music and song and
their ability to get everyone up and dancing!
