The peak body representing multicultural communities in
NSW, the Ethnic Communities’ Council of NSW (ECCNSW),
expressed grave concerns over increased racism and hate
speech directed towards minority communities.
ECCNSW Chair Peter Doukas OAM said he was concerned that
frustrations over COVID-19 were being directed towards
minorities, particularly Asian-Australians.
"It’s understandable to feel anxious right now, but
there is no excuse for racism," Mr Doukas said.
"This is a time when Australians should be pulling
together, not harassing and abusing minorities.
"If you see a racist attack, call it out and report it.
You have a responsibility to act."
The ECCNSW con-demns racist behaviour and hate speech
and stands by those minority groups which have been
targeted during this difficult time.
