Major upgrade boosts Loxton Hotel
August 2012 A major renovation at the Loxton Community Hotel is expected to boost the town’s tourism capability and attract more conferences to the area. The hotel has made significant progress towards completing its $1.73 million redevelopment, as a result of funding through the State Government’s Riverland Sustainable Futures Fund. The upgraded accommodation and function facilities provide the Riverland with a fresh alternative for tourism, conferences, weddings and other events. Regional Development and Tourism Minister Gail Gago said progress on the Hotel was impressive and she is pleased that the State Government’s grant of $865,484 has been able to contribute towards the redevelopment. "The Loxton Community Hotel’s upgrade is progressing well with a lot of the work ahead of schedule, including the major refit of the conference area," Minister Gago said. Tourism is critical to the ongoing prosperity of the Riverland, and is one of the five identified pillars for a sustainable future in the Riverland Prospectus. The Chairman of Directors of the Loxton Community Hotel, Wendy Mudge, thanked the State Government for its support, and said the renovations had already helped attract new guests and increased event bookings. The Labor Government established the Fund to assist with industry restructuring and to promote sustainable economic and social development in the Riverland following a severe drought and depressed economic circumstances. Commitments from the $20 million Riverland Sustainable Futures Fund now totalled $9.8 million. |
