Shadow Minister for Police visits the Riverland

April 2015

Shadow Minister for Police, Correctional Services and Justice, John Gardner, travelled across the Riverland and Mallee during a two day tour of the region on March 10 and 11.

Hosted by Member for Chaffey Tim Whetstone, Mr Gardner met with a number of community members, including local Neighbourhood Watch representatives and spoke with stakeholders around important issues within his Shadow portfolios, such as domestic violence.

"I met with locals and discussed their concerns about public safety and listened to their ideas about how services can be improved," Mr Gardner told the Greek Tribune.

Mr Gardner said he also had the opportunity to visit the Corrections area, Cadell Training Centre to see whether there has been an impact on its operations due to the increased number of prisoners.

Mr Whetstone said many issues around police, correctional services and justice in regional areas are vastly different to those in metropolitan areas and he is pleased Mr Gardner has taken the time to travel to the region and speak with people first-hand.
